Orders, shipping and rules questions

Most things are answered below. If yours is not, email us — a person reads it, and we would rather hear from you than have you guess.

Orders

Where do I actually buy these?

Every game and every piece of merchandise is sold through our own store at newqz.com. This site is the studio showcase — the buy buttons here all hand off to the store, which handles payment, tax and fulfilment.

Which payment methods do you take?

The store runs on Shopify, so it accepts the usual major cards, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal where those are available in your country. The exact list shown at checkout depends on your region.

Can I change or cancel an order?

Email hello@newqz.com with your order number as soon as you can. If the parcel has not been handed to the carrier yet we can usually still change or cancel it.

Do you sell wholesale or to retailers?

Yes — we are a small studio and we do work with independent shops. Write to hello@newqz.com with your shop name, location and rough quantities and we will send terms.

Shipping & returns

Where do you ship?

We ship worldwide from the NEWQZ store. Available destinations, rates and delivery estimates are calculated at checkout on newqz.com from your address — that page is the authoritative one, so we do not duplicate rates here where they could go stale.

How long does delivery take?

It depends entirely on destination and the service you pick at checkout. The store shows you an estimate before you pay. If your parcel is materially late, email us with the order number and we will chase the carrier.

Who pays import duty?

For international orders, any customs duty or import VAT is charged by your own country and is the recipient's responsibility. We cannot pre-pay it or mark parcels as gifts.

What if my copy arrives damaged?

Photograph the damage — the outer box as well as the contents — and email hello@newqz.com within 14 days of delivery. We replace transit-damaged copies.

What is the returns policy?

The binding version is the refund policy published on the store: newqz.com/policies/refund-policy. Read that before starting a return, and email us if anything in it is unclear.

About the games

Are the games in English?

Yes. Spire of Dioronna and Crow Drinks Water both ship with English rulebooks and English card text, and CityWright is being developed in English.

Is Spire of Dioronna really connected to the Three-Body Problem?

The character is. Dioronna appears in Cixin Liu's novel as a 15th-century wizard in the Byzantine Empire who finds a higher-dimensional shard. The game borrows her and the spire she worked in as its setting; it is not an officially licensed Three-Body product and it does not retell the novel's plot.

Do I need to have played one to play the others?

No. All three are standalone. They share a studio and an attitude to component quality, not a universe or a rules system.

Are there solo modes?

Spire of Dioronna is 2–4 players and Crow Drinks Water is 3–6; neither ships a dedicated solo mode. Player counts for CityWright have not been finalised.

Will you reprint a game if it sells out?

Both delivered games are currently in stock. If something sells out, the fastest way to hear about a reprint is the launch list.

CityWright

When does CityWright launch?

No date has been announced. It is in development, and the Kickstarter campaign has not gone live. Join the launch list and we will write to you when it does. We use the same list for campaign launches and reprints, and for nothing else — expect a handful of emails a year at most.

How many players, and how long?

Not finalised. We would rather leave those numbers blank on this page than publish a guess that changes before launch. They will be filled in here the moment they are locked.

What will it cost?

Pricing has not been set. Backer pricing on Kickstarter is normally below the eventual retail price, which is the main reason to be on the launch list.

Is the artwork final?

The illustration style is settled — pen-and-ink linework with watercolour washes on warm paper, which you can see in the district art on this site. Individual tiles and layouts are still moving.

Kickstarter

Have your campaigns actually delivered?

Yes. Spire of Dioronna and Crow Drinks Water were both funded on Kickstarter and both fulfilled; the retail editions of both are on the store now. Our campaign history is public on our Kickstarter creator profile.

I backed a campaign and something is wrong with my reward.

Message us through the Kickstarter campaign page so the thread stays attached to your pledge, or email hello@newqz.com with the campaign name and your backer number.

Why crowdfund at all?

Print runs for boxed games have high minimums. Crowdfunding tells us how many copies to manufacture before we commit to a run, which is the difference between an independent studio existing and not existing.
