Small boxes, big table presence.

NEWQZ is an independent tabletop studio. We have taken two games from sketch to shipped crate through Kickstarter, and our third — CityWright — is a hex-tile city planner drawn entirely in architect's ink and watercolour.

Concept mock-up of CityWright in play — a hex-tile city map mid-build on a wooden table, with player boards, wooden trees and buildings and district cards around it. Components are not final.

In development

Design Your Dream City

Four district types compete for the same limited ground. Every hex you place makes some future placements better and others impossible — the city you end up with is an argument you had with yourself over twelve turns.

Drawn, not rendered

Every tile, card and board is original ink-and-watercolour illustration on a warm paper ground.

Hex-tile city map

The map is built during play. No two cities come out the same shape, so no opening ever repeats.

Four competing districts

Residential, Commercial, Park and Industrial all want the same ground for different reasons.

Wooden components

Chunky wooden trees, houses and cubes — the table reads at a glance from across the room.

Residential

Build cosy neighbourhoods — terraced streets, front gardens and the school run.

Ink and watercolour illustration of a commercial district with shopfronts and office buildings. Commercial

Commercial

Develop business districts — the shopfronts and offices that pay for everything else.

Ink and watercolour illustration of a city park with mature trees and walking paths. Park

Park

Create green spaces — the lungs of the city, and the tiles your neighbours quietly envy.

Ink and watercolour illustration of an industrial district with factory buildings and chimneys. Industrial

Industrial

Establish factories — productive, necessary, and nobody wants one next door.

Track record

Funded in public, delivered in public

Crowdfunding numbers are a matter of public record, so here are ours — with the campaign pages they came from. Both campaigns funded, and both shipped.

Launch list

Be the first to know when CityWright launches

We write to you on the day the campaign goes live, and after that only when there is a launch or a reprint — a handful of emails a year at most. No weekly newsletter, no drip sequence.

One email, then nothing. Reply to it, or write to hello@newqz.com, and we delete your address. We never pass it to anyone.
